a major theological work written by Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan in the 4th century AD. The three books that comprise the treatise are considered a sequel to his earlier work,
On the Faith (
De Fide), and were addressed to the young Emperor Gratian around A.D. 381. The work was a significant contribution to Trinitarian theology in the
early Church and helped shape Christian doctrine for centuries.
Ambrose's clear and well-founded explanation, though written in a simple
style, provided powerful proofs to move the minds of his readers and
combat erroneous beliefs about the nature of God.
